How Abdominoplasty Is Done
How Tummy Tuck is Performed
Tummy tuck, which is one of the most effective methods of providing body beauty, is called abdominoplasty in the medical language.
When is abdominoplasty performed?
A smooth tummy image is one of the sine qua non of body beauty. However, there are various situations that distort this image. We can summarize the main ones as follows:
- Birth(s). Severe stretching of the abdominal skin during pregnancy causes subcutaneous tears. The healing of these tears leads to permanent scars under the skin. In the same way, the expanding abdominal skin may not reach its former tension after birth and may cause sagging at the bottom. Especially in multiple births, the muscles forming the anterior abdominal wall can be torn from each other due to excessive enlargement. Even if there is no skin laxity on the abdominal wall, this can lead to a convex appearance outward.
- Excessive weight changes. Obesity or being overweight also causes stretch marks and sagging of the abdominal skin depending on the weight of the fats. When weight loss is added to this, the sagging of the abdomen becomes even more evident.
- Getting old. With time, the elasticity and tension of the skin decrease. If a slight excess of weight or weakening is added to this, the sagging of the abdominal skin becomes much more evident.
What disorders does a tummy tuck correct
We have listed the reasons that change the appearance of the abdomen above. The factors that spoil the aesthetic appearance of the abdomen are:
- Skin cracks (striae) Subcutaneous tear due to tension and scarring under the skin.
- Skin drooping Folding of loose skin on the underbelly and folding over itself. This situation causes discomfort such as bad smell, rash, itching and pain in the folding area, apart from visual disturbance.
- Bulging Even if the person is weak, he walks around with the appearance of “belly” because the abdomen is bombed. The reason for this is a kind of hernia formed in the anterior abdominal wall muscles.
- Belly button slides down The belly button should normally be higher than the upper edge of the hipbone. The loosening of the abdominal skin also pulls the navel down, which is also a disadvantage in terms of aesthetic appearance.
Outline of abdominoplasty surgery
Today, it is not possible to restore the severely damaged abdominal skin without any surgical procedure. However, when the disorder is examined, it is seen that a significant part of the skin damage is around and below the navel. Sagging and cracks are much less in the upper umbilical region. The underbelly skin is abundant and loose. Even if it is completely removed, the deficiency can be closed by pulling the skin above. Looseness in the abdominal wall can only be corrected by working under the skin. As anyone can understand, in order to remove a surplus, it is often necessary to cut it out. We also have to make an incision in the abdominal skin to remove the excess. However, it is possible to make this incision in the groin area, which is the easiest place to hide. In order to repair hernia and looseness in the abdominal muscles, we must make these muscles visible. We can do this through a tunnel we will make under the abdominal wall. The length of this tunnel should extend to the upper edge of the abdomen, in other words, to the lower edge of the sternum, because the abdominal muscles go this far. One obstacle when opening the tunnel is the belly button. Here, the skin is cut all around and the navel is kept attached to the abdominal wall. After the excess skin is removed, a new navel hole is opened in the appropriate place on the remaining smooth skin, and the navel standing on the abdominal wall is stretched out through this hole and sutured to the abdominal skin. When the process is completed, the length of the stitch scar on the groin varies from person to person. The greater the droop, the more the scar will extend to the sides and back. However, according to the panty or bikini bottom model, this trace can be adjusted to remain inside.
